EC aid
Aid projects can have major impacts on forests and forest peoples yet the EC’s aid programme fails to take this properly into account. FERN's work includes linking NGOs in recipient countries with the EU through the EC Forest Platform.
Trade and investment
EU trade agreements and investment mechanisms must contribute to the conservation and sustainable use of forests and respect for forest people's rights. FERN campaigns on the EU trade policy and Export Credit Agencies and illegal logging.

Climate change
Forests play a major role in regulating the earth's climate yet we are destroying these vital ecosystems at an uncontrolled rate. FERN scrutinizes the international climate change agreements and supports SinksWatch, the carbon sink monitoring campaign.

Global policy
The United Nations Forum on Forests and the Convention on Biological Diversity are major centres of debate. Here global policies affecting forests, forest peoples and biodiversity are decided. FERN tracks and contributes to the debate to ensure that action is built into policy decisions.
EU forests
A by-product of our main campaigns, this area of our web site presents materials on internal developments within EU institutions and European forest issues.
Forest certification
Forest certification is strongly supported by FERN when the standards are credible. For this reason we are closely involved in monitoring the different certfication schemes and support the development of the Forest Stewardship Council.
