Combating Racism, Xenophobia & Promoting the Rights of Minorities – Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights

The European Commission is seeking proposals from NGOs to promote the rights of minorities, and to combat racism and xenophobia. Actions may include: providing assistance in eliminating discrimination through the application of legal and administrative remedies, lobbying for changes in the law and administrative practices, as well as training and awareness-raising activities. Funding granted is between 150,000 and 500,000 euros.

Actions must take place in one or more of the following regions and/or countries (a regional project should cover at least two countries in the same region): Two (2) regions are eligible for regional projects: Central Asia (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan) and South-Eastern Europe (Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, FYROM, Serbia-Montenegro); Ten (10) countries are eligible for national projects: Bosnia-Herzegovina , Israel, Serbia-Montenegro, China, Ethiopia, Fiji, Georgia, Nepal, Pakistan and Turkey.

Proposals may be submitted in English or French. The deadline for the receipt of applications is April 12 2005 at 16.00 (Brussels time).

Support for Promoting the Rights of Indigenous Peoples – Initiative for Democracy and Human Rights

The European Commission is seeking proposals to provide support for building the capacity of indigenous peoples and their representatives to participate in, contribute to, and follow up on, the work of international mechanisms and procedures in the promotion and protection of their rights. Actions may take place in any country provided that the beneficiaries are indigenous peoples in third countries (outside the European Union). Funding granted is between 150,000 and 1,500,000 euros.

La Comisión Europea invita a ONG a presentar propuestas para proyectos que promuevan los derechos de las minorías ; y que luchen contra el racismo y la xenofobia. Las acciones elegibles pueden incluir proveer asistencia en la eliminación de la discriminación a través de la aplicación de remedies legales y administrativos, hacer lobby político para cambios en las practicas legales y administrativas, así como actividades de educación y de sensibilización. Las subvenciones otorgadas son entre 150.000 y 500.000 euros.

La Comisión Europea invita a presentar propuestas para proyectos que apoyen la formación de indígenas y de sus representantes para participar, contribuir y dar seguimiento al trabajo de mecanismos y dispositivos de organizaciones internacionales en la promoción y protección de sus derechos. Las acciones se ejecutarán en cualquier lugar del mundo siempre que los beneficiarios sean pueblos indígenas de países terceros (fuera de la Unión Europea). Las subvenciones otorgadas son entre 150.000 y 1.500.000 euros.

La taille des subventions doit être entre 150.000 et 500.000 euros.

La Commission Européenne lance un appel a proposition vise à renforcer la capacité des peuples autochtones et de leurs représentants à participer, contribuer et assurer le suivi des travaux des mécanismes et procédures internationaux dans la promotion et la protection de leurs droits. Les actions peuvent avoir lieu partout dans le monde, dans la mesure où les bénéficiaires des actions seront des peuples autochtones dans les pays tiers (hors Union Européenne). La taille des subventions doit être entre 150.000 et 1.500.000 euros.
