Article 6: national strategies
and cross sectoral approach
The development of national biodiversity action plans and strategies to
be integrated into relevant sectoral and cross-sectoral plans and policies
(such as National Forest Programmes).
Article 8: in-situ conservation
The conservation of ecosystems, natural habitats and species in their
natural surroundings (protected areas networks).
Article 8h and decision VI/L.13:
Invasive alien species
Prevention of introduction and mitigation of the impacts of invasive alien
species that threaten ecosystems, habitats and species and related guiding
principles.
Article 8j and related provisions:
participation and indigenous peoples rights
Protection of traditional knowledge, innovations, and practices of indigenous
peoples and sustainable use of biological diversity and the fair and equitable
sharing of the benefits.
Article 10: sustainable use
of biological resources
Sustainable use of the components of biological diversity, including the
integration of conservation and sustainable use of biological resources
into national decision-making.
Article 10 c: customary use
Protection of customary use in accordance with traditional practices compatible
with conservation and sustainable use.

and decision VI/7: impact assessment and minimising adverse impacts
Promotion of environmental impact assessment (EIA), introduction of appropriate
measures to avoid adverse impact of activities on biodiversity, and guidelines
for incorporating biodiversity-related issues into EIA legislation or
processes and in Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA).

ecosystem approach
The ecosystem approach as the primary framework
of action under the Convention, 12 guiding principles for its application
