FERN believes forest certification helps consumers choose ethical and environmental products from sustainable sources, and contributes to an improvement in forest management. Setting high-quality standards needs the full participation of all stakeholders including environmental NGOs, social sector and industry. For this reason we support the international forest certification scheme of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

Our certification work aims to strengthen high quality forest certification at EU level, to improve the performance of the forest certification schemes and to identify and expose the strengths and flaws in all certification schemes operating in the EU.

We also track the development of the EU eco-label where it affects forest products – such as paper and furniture.
