An EU Forest Observatory could play an important role in monitoring deforestation, human rights violations, and land use in supply chains of products and commodities such as soybeans and beef.
This summary report looks at what can be learnt from Brazil’s efforts and concludes with recommendations for the EU, including how to enforce the future Regulation on deforestation-free products.
The public still have time to insist on bold UK action to protect and restore forests worldwide.

Some provisions in the Commission’s proposed Regulation on deforestation-free products must be strengthened, but its arrival is cause for celebration.
El 17 de noviembre de 2021, la Comisión Europea dio a conocer su propuesta para un Reglamento sobre productos libres de deforestación que tiene por objeto evitar que algunos productos básicos y productos derivados que generan deforestación ingresen en el mercado de la Unión Europea (UE). La propuesta se debatirá en el Parlamento Europeo y el Consejo durante el año 2022, antes de convertirse en ley. Resulta oportuno analizar el contenido de la propuesta y cuáles son sus puntos fuertes y débiles.
