Stop the harrassment and intimidation of indigenous peoples leaders and human rights defenders

The human rights situation in the Philippines is deteriorating. The government has been charged with executing 12,000 people labeled drug criminals, without a trial or even an arrest warrant and the Philippines already leads Asia in the murders of indigenous and environmental activists, with 41 advocates killed in 2017.

On 21 February the Philippines government placed 599 people on a "terrorist list" including indigenous leaders, activists and their legal experts, several former catholic priests and environmental advocates.

Rumors already are circulating that bounties are being offered for people on the latest list.

The list includes Victoria Tauli-Corpuz, UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, and Ms. Joan Carling, Co-convener of the Indigenous Peoples Major Group on the Sustainable Development Goals.

You can help clear their names by adding yours to this petition, calling on the Philippine government to:

1. Remove the names of indigenous peoples’ leaders and human rights defenders from the list of alleged terrorists;

2. Ensure the physical safety of indigenous peoples’ leaders and human rights defenders, and;

3. Abide by State obligations to protect human rights and fundamental freedoms, including access to justice, freedom of expression and of association.
