Last summer, Greta Thunberg, a 15-year old Swedish girl started a lone strike outside of the Swedish Parliament to protest against lack of action on climate change. She had one simple ask, for the Swedish government to come up with a climate plan commensurate with the scientific reality outlined by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.
Over the weeks and months, this #FridaysforFuture protest has snowballed to the point that tens of thousands of youth across Europe, Australia and beyond have taken to the streets instead of attending school.
These young people are expressing what many of us feel: disillusionment with the political establishment who seem unwilling to listen and respond to the scientific reality.
On 15 March 2019, the strike will become truly global as kids once more hit the streets with one single demand - Unite behind the Science.
In solidarity with these inspirational young people, Fern is also closing its doors on 15 March, and calls on other organisations to do the same.
