The Cerrado is Brazil’s second largest ecosystem. It is a savannah (mixed woodland and grassland), which is home for many communities and crucial for Brazil’s water table. In the past decade, it has been transformed to commodity production at an alarming rate, especially for soy and beef. International and national protection measures are sparse.
Fern is hosting an event to introduce you to the richness of the Cerrado, the challenges its people face and the links with EU policies, such as the EU Regulation on deforestation-free products and the EU – Mercosur trade agreement.
The event is part of the European tour of leaders from the Articulation of Indigenous People of Brazil and other representatives of traditional peoples and communities. It will be followed by a cultural ceremony including photos, music and food.
